Portal Innovations at the UChicago Incubator

The UChicago Incubator space is a partnership between Portal, The University of Chicago, and the Polsky Center. The project is 22,000 SF of space, located at Hyde Park Labs near the campus of The University of Chicago. This space will help incubate startups focused on life sciences, clean tech, and quantum – many of which are spun out of nearby universities.

The UChicago Incubator is located at 5207 S Harper Ave, Chicago, IL 60615, in the same space as the 300,000 SF Hyde Park Labs space.

Portal’s UChicago Incubator space serves as a destination for startups emerging from Chicago’s south side. As these companies scale they will also serve as a resource for local talent retention.
The Portal offices and world-class lab space is 22,000 SF and opened in June 2025. The space has state-of-the-art lab space and shared equipment, benches, desks, offices, large co-working spaces, and multiple conference rooms. The Portal lab has over $2 million of modern equipment and includes both wet and dry labs, tissue culture hoods, BSL2 labs, chemical fume hoods, among others.

Why UChicago?

The University of Chicago is one of the top research universities in the world. Chicago’s south side traditionally hasn’t had access to world-class lab and co-working space, until now. The UChicago Incubator space will allow for life sciences, clean tech, and quantum companies to run experiments today. This is a game-changing model for residents in the area, and we’re excited to help incubate startups.
